The Georgian government has established a special commission to evaluate the damage caused by recent heavy snowfall, the Government press office announced on Monday.
The commission will conduct a “detailed assessment” of the impact on affected communities before making necessary decisions regarding aid and restoration efforts.
“The state will restore houses damaged by the heavy snowfall, and citizens whose homes are beyond repair will be provided with alternative housing,” the press office said.
Additionally, urgent repairs on damaged roofs and minor infrastructure will begin “immediately”, with authorities promising swift action to address the most pressing needs.
Severe snowfall has disrupted daily life in several regions of Georgia, in the country’s west, with reports of collapsed structures and infrastructural damage.
