The Council of the Georgian House, an umbrella association of Georgian cultural organizations in Estonia, has issued a strong statement condemning the Georgian government’s recent decision to halt EU accession. They believe this decision undermines the country’s European integration path and constitutional commitments.
The statement aligns with remarks made by Georgia’s President Salome Zourabichvili on November 28, criticizing Tbilisi’s recent withdrawal from advancing EU accession negotiations until 2028. The council called on Georgia’s Ambassador to Estonia, Zurab Khamashuridze, to publicly distance himself from what they described as the government’s “anti-Western course.”
“We believe that recent developments in Georgia and decisions made by the Georgian government contradict the country’s course toward European integration and the Constitution of Georgia. Therefore, we demand that the Ambassador take a clear position,” the statement reads.
The council warned that failing to act would result in a suspension of all cooperation with the Georgian Embassy in Estonia starting December 2, 2024.
