The fact that convicted former president Mikheil Saakashvili is receiving treatment in one of the best clinics in Georgia and his health deteriorating, means that the Georgian healthcare system has completed its role in this regard, Dr. Tengiz Tsuladze said on Monday while assessing Saakashvili’s condition.
“He is very weak, he mostly lies down. We were able to lift him up with help, he finds it difficult to stand on his own and uses a frame. He comes into contact with reluctance when talking, his blood pressure drops when he is lying down, he also shows anemia. If this continues, he will continue to lose weight, of course, it will end fatally”, said the doctor.
Saakashvili has been receiving treatment in the Vivamedi civilian clinic since May 12, after his arrest in Tbilisi in October 2021.
Justice Minister Rati Bregadze on Monday said the state had been doing its “utmost”, since the arrest of the former top official, to ensure his health, stating that the part of the domestic opposition had been using Saakashvili’s health topic for their political agenda.
A health report by a domestic Empathy NGO said last week that “more than 20 health issues” could lead to coda and death of the ex-official, recommending the authorities to transfer him abroad for treatment.
Lawyers have already addressed the court to release Saakashvili on medical grounds.
