Last month, the Migration Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs deported 60 foreign nationals under the Law on the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons. Some of these individuals left Georgia voluntarily, while others were forcibly expelled through actions by migration authorities.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that the deported individuals included citizens from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Iran, Russia, India, Turkmenistan, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Iraq, Nigeria, Jordan, Algeria, Egypt, and Ghana. Among them were individuals reportedly involved in various anti-social activities on Georgian territory.
The Ministry’s report reads that coordination between the Migration Department and relevant divisions led to 384 deportations in 2024, marking a 26% increase from the previous year. Additionally, voluntary departures rose by 60.7%, with 323 individuals leaving Georgia through deportation procedures.
’’The Migration Department continues to strengthen mechanisms against illegal migration and align its operations with international standards. New legislative amendments are planned to enhance the department’s capacity for effective deportation procedures for individuals without legal grounds to remain in Georgia,” the statement says.
