Georgian opposition leader calls for mass protest against election ‘hijacking’

Giorgi Vashadze, leader of the opposition party Unity – National Movement”, on Monday called on supporters to join a protest against what he described as the “hijacking” of the recent elections by the ruling party, Georgian Dream. The demonstration is set to begin at Tbilisi’s Station Square at 17:00, before marching towards Rustaveli Avenue for a rally outside Parliament at 19:00.

“We do not accept the hijacking of the elections by Georgian Dream, which has already been confirmed,” Vashadze stated, urging citizens to stand together. “Whoever wants to join us, come to the Station Square at 5 o’clock, from where we will march towards Rustaveli.”

Vashadze emphasized that the opposition’s efforts are part of a broader, organized strategy. “We have systematic, orderly, organized, planned steps that will lead us to the final victory,” he said. Stressing the importance of unity, he added, “This is not only my protest—it is ours, everyone’s protest, where the involvement of each person is crucial.”
