Georgia’s opposition parties have organized a protest set for 15:00 in Tbilisi to contest the recent election results. According to Gigi Tsereteli, a leader in the United National Movement, these demonstrations reflect a widespread frustration among citizens over what he describes as “irregularities and manipulations” in the October 26 voting process.
Speaking to journalists, Tsereteli emphasized that the protests will continue daily and that opposition groups are working in close coordination, both internally and with civil society groups and President Salome Zourabichvili.
“Today, gatherings will be held in two locations: at the State University metro station on Kavtaradze Street and at Marjanishvili Square. This will be a demonstration of the protest sentiment that exists not only within opposition parties but also among those in society who have seen for themselves what happened on October 26 and how the results, the people’s choice, were altered through various manipulations. We’re talking about breaches of secrecy, unauthorized collection of personal information, and its subsequent misuse,” he said.
Tsereteli noted the protests will not cease as long as there is significant public frustration over these election results, adding that international observers have also raised concerns about the election process.
