The Georgian Patriarchate on Thursday hosted a roundtable on the topic of the country’s currently Russian-occupied Abkhazia region in the north-west, titled Abkhazia – modern reality and challenges.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Patriarchate of Georgia, the Government of Abkhazia, the Supreme Council of Abkhazia, the scientific community and the public, and war veterans.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss conflict issues, the Patriarchate said.
“Unfortunately, the Georgian side, engaged in an information war with the anti-Georgian forces, is still not able to adequately provide objective information about the conflict at the international level.
Added to this, the existing information environment in the country harms the national and state interests and supports the separatist forces, wittingly or unwittingly”, it said.
The meeting highlighted the importance of the international support for peaceful reintegration of the occupied regions.
