Georgian PM advocates for “de-oligarchization in US”, “echoing Trump”

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has expressed support for the idea of de-oligarchization in the United States, a stance he claimed he shared with President-elect Donald Trump. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Kobakhidze highlighted the need for the US to rid itself of informal influences, referring to Trump’s frequent criticism of the so-called “Deep State,” which he claims significantly affects governance in America.

Kobakhidze also commented on a recent interview withJeffrey D. Sachs, who accused the current US administration of orchestrating a coup in Georgia. He described the allegations as serious and pointed out that the sanctioning of Georgian officials, including Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri, could be seen as a form of recognition of the existing administration.

Reflecting on Trump’s past statements, Kobakhidze noted the former president’s warnings about the “Deep State” potentially destroying the United States. He linked these remarks to what he perceives as unjust actions taken by American institutions over the past four years.

“The US needs de-oligarchization, which we have discussed many times, and we fully agree with President Trump on this,” Kobakhidze emphasized. “He also believes that the US needs to be freed from informal influences.”

Additionally, the Prime Minister criticized the sanctions imposed on Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, stating that the Ministry operates at a “higher standard than its European and American counterparts”.

He argued that the failure to sanction former Georgian officials for alleged crimes while in office constituted an acknowledgment that the authors of the sanctions were complicit in the event.
