Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has discussed prospects for the country’s EU membership with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in a phone conversation today, following Georgia’s recent move to apply for the membership to the bloc.
Garibashvili noted that Georgia appreciates Germany’s role on the path to European and Euro-Atlantic integration and expressed hope for Germany’s strong support in the process of considering Georgia’s application for EU membership, the Government of Georgia press office said.
The officials discussed the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine which resulted in the deteriorating security environment in the Eastern European region.
Garibashvili reiterated the need for joint efforts of the international community and world leaders to end the war as soon as possible.
Georgia applied for EU membership earlier this month, shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.
