Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday extended his best wishes to the Azerbaijani community in Georgia on the occasion of Novruz Bayram, a festival marking the arrival of spring and renewal.
Alongside President Mikheil Kavelashvili and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, Kobakhidze attended festive events in the town of Marneuli, home to Azerbaijani population. In his address, Kobakhidze highlighted the importance of unity and coexistence among Georgia’s diverse communities.
“Novruz Bayram is a holiday of renewal and goodness. We are proud of the centuries-old coexistence and friendship that unite us – Christians and Muslims, Georgians and Azerbaijanis. This is a truly proud relationship and friendship,” he said. “For many years, we have been shaping the future of our common country together. This history continues today, and it is a wonderful tradition we must pass on to future generations”, the PM said.
As part of the celebrations, the PM toured an exhibition space and an ethno corner set up in Marneuli’s town center. He also attended various cultural and sporting events dedicated to the holiday.
Several high-ranking officials joined in congratulating the Azerbaijani community, including State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality Tea Akhvlediani, State Representative of Kvemo Kartli Giorgi Dokhturishvili, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani, and other local government representatives.
