The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze announced that the number of hotels across Georgia has tripled over the past 12 years, marking a significant boost for the country’s tourism sector. Speaking at the presentation of a new hotel and recreational complex in Sioni on Thursday, Kobakhidze emphasized that the growth in hotel infrastructure reflects the government’s successful efforts to promote tourism, with the number of hotels rising from 800 in 2012 to over 2,400 today.
“In 2012, there were around 800 hotels across the country. Today, an additional 1,600 hotels have been added to the tourism sector,” Kobakhidze announced. The Prime Minister highlighted that, with 85,000 available rooms in these hotels, the industry has grown significantly from the 23,000 rooms available 12 years ago.
Kobakhidze underscored the government’s continued commitment to supporting tourism and similar large-scale projects, emphasizing their role in driving employment, strengthening the economy, and boosting regional development, particularly in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region.
“I am delighted to be here today, witnessing the presentation of this outstanding project. The new hotel complex will offer an ideal environment for relaxation. The involvement of the ‘Le Meridien’ brand adds further prestige to this initiative,” Kobakhidze stated, noting that many people hold fond memories of the picturesque Sioni Lake, making it a prime location for hotel infrastructure development.
The Prime Minister extended his gratitude to the developer company Archi, project initiators, and all parties involved in making the project a reality. He expressed confidence in the project’s success and its potential to attract a large number of visitors.
“The success of tourism is the success of our country. In the future, we will continue to strengthen this vital sector of the economy,” Kobakhidze concluded.
