Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Monday, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session, discussing global challenges and regional challenges and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“Garibashvili thanked António Guterres for his unwavering support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, also emphasizing his appreciation for UN engagement in the process of peaceful conflict resolution”, said the Government Administration.
During the meeting Garibashvili stated the Government of Georgia “is committed to the policy of peaceful conflict resolution, which seeks to ensure the de-occupation of Georgia’s territories and confidence-building between the communities divided by the occupation line”.
Discussing Russia’s war in Ukraine, Garibashvili stated that it “has shaken up the entire international security architecture and rules-based order”.
The conversation touched on the security environment in the South Caucasus Region. Emphasis was put on the agreement achieved through the efforts of Irakli Garibashvili between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as a result of which Azerbaijan released Armenian POWs, while Armenia, for its part, handed over important maps to Azerbaijan. The Prime Minister expressed readiness to continue acting as a mediator for ensuring peace and stability in the region, said the Government press office.
