Georgian PM urges Scholz to “focus on own issues” amid German political crisis

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has advised German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to direct his attention to Germany’s domestic challenges rather than commenting on Georgian affairs.

This response followed a joint statement from Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, calling on Georgia to repeal its transparency and family values laws.

The European leaders expressed concern about “irregularities and voter intimidation” reported during Georgia’s recent elections and advocated for “swift and transparent investigations” to address these issues.

“Olaf Scholz has his own problems, and I don’t know how he solved them for Georgia,” Kobakhidze remarked, suggesting that Scholz should concentrate on managing his coalition’s breakdown rather than making statements about Georgian issues. He added, “Scholz’s coalition broke up, special elections will be called in the near future. I think the German Chancellor should be more concerned about his own problems.”
