Georgian PM warns of reassessing ties with US amid tensions

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday warned that Georgia might “reconsider the existing status quo” with the US due to recent tensions in their relationship.

His remarks followed the US administration’s withdrawal of an invitation for a dinner hosted by President Joe Biden at the United Nations General Assembly and recent sanctions on Georgian citizens earlier in September over alleged human rights violations.

Kobakhidze criticized the US move on cancellation of his invitation, calling it “childish,” and claimed Georgia had communicated its concerns clearly with American officials.

The PM stressed the potential reassessment of ties with the US was dependent on Washington.
