Georgian President arrives in Rome to attend Pope Francis’ funeral

President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili has arrived in Rome, accompanied by an official delegation, to attend the funeral ceremony of Pope Francis on April 26 at the Vatican.

According to the Presidential Administration, the president’s plane landed at Rome’s Ciampino military airport, where an official welcome ceremony was held.

The Georgian delegation includes Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Botchorishvili, Head of the Presidential Administration Ketevan Kvinikadze, Metropolitan Gerasime—Head of the Eparchy of Zugdidi and Tsaishi and Chairman of the Patriarchate’s Foreign Affairs Department—as well as Protopresbyter Giorgi Zviadadze, Rector of the Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary and Deputy Head of the Sioni Cathedral.
