Georgian President summoned by Prosecutor’s Office over alleged election falsification claims

The Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has announced that President Salome Zourabichvili has been summoned for questioning regarding statements she made about potential falsification in last week’s parliamentary elections. The summons followed an appeal from the Central Election Commission (CEC), which prompted an investigation for the allegations.

In a statement, the Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that an investigation is underway to examine alleged election falsification claims voiced by President Zourabichvili. The office indicated that President Zourabichvili may hold key information on the potential rigging, prompting her summons to the investigative agency. “All necessary investigative and procedural actions will be undertaken, as per the CEC’s directive, to scrutinize the claims raised by the President, political parties, and observation mission representatives,” the statement said.

The inquiry will involve questioning individuals who may have knowledge relevant to the alleged offenses, with law enforcement actively investigating various incidents reported during the pre-election period and on election day. Authorities have committed to providing periodic updates on the progress of the investigation to the public.
