Georgian Prosecutor’s Office claims investigation “ruled out” multiple voting during elections

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia on Wednesday shared an update on its investigation into allegations of election fraud during the October 2024 parliamentary elections. According to the PoG, the election verification devices used throughout the voting process “effectively prevented” the possibility of multiple voting by a single individual.

“We conducted multiple investigative experiments, which conclusively show that it is impossible for one person to vote at multiple polling stations,” the PoG confirmed. “The design of the verification devices specifically prevents double voting.”

The PoG also noted its collaboration with Smartmatic, a US-based company specializing in election technology, to analyze the verification devices used in the elections.

Furthermore, the investigation concluded that it was not possible for any individual to cast more than one vote at the same polling station.
“We can confidently state that the possibility of any individual casting multiple votes has been ruled out,” the PoG declared.

In addition to the verification devices, the investigation also focused on
the quality of the marking fluid used during the elections. The fluid, which glows under ultraviolet light, was tested and confirmed to meet international standards, with its luminescence lasting up to 12 hours after application, it said.

The PoG went on to address claims made by witnesses, stating that most of the testimonies they received lacked concrete evidence to support allegations of election fraud.

It noted to date, the investigation had involved over 800 procedural and investigative actions, including several experiments with foreign experts, and a series of relevant examinations. “While the probe is ongoing, approximately 400 individuals have been interviewed”, it added.
