The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party is marking the 10th anniversary from the creation, saying in a statement released today that they are the only authorities who have managed to prevent a war and ensured the democratic advancement of the country.
“The Georgian Dream is the first Georgian government during which the country did not have a war. Through pragmatic foreign policy, despite serious security challenges, the Georgian Dream has strengthened peace and enhanced the country ‘s stability and security,” said the statement.
The party suggested that the degree of development of democracy in Georgia is “significantly ahead” of the degree of economic development, noting that democracy has a lower price in public perception at such times.
“Media freedom and media pluralism are guaranteed to a high degree. Systematic practice of election fraud has been prevented and electoral bodies have been formed according to the will of the population. Economic freedom and property rights are protected to a high standard. The country has a new constitution that fully complies with the best European practices and standards of parliamentary democracy.
“The court, the prosecutor’s office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs are no longer used as a repressive mechanism, which is clearly confirmed by the research and statistics of a number of authoritative international organizations,” the Georgian Dream said.
10 years ago, on April 21, 2012, the founding congress of the party “Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia was held.
In October 2012 the Georgian Dream coalition defeated the United National Movement in parliamentary elections which had been in office for nine years.
