All the statements of Oleksiy Arestovich, adviser to the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, made towards Georgia are statements of a political adventurer, Irakli Kadagishvili, chairman of the Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules from the ruling party said today, responding to the former’s “offer” that it is the right time for Georgia to take control of its Russian-occupied regions.
Kadagishvili suggested that the Georgian authorities have no plans to act in line with Arestovich’s “provocative statements,” and use force.
“His statements are aimed only at getting as many countries as possible hit by Russian aggression. His statements, that we have a chance to launch hostilities and return the occupied territories through this way, means that we are provoking Russian aggression. Therefore, these are provocative statements,” Kadagishvili said.
Arestovich, who earlier said that the current Georgian and Moldovan governments are unlikely to open the second front for Russia, said that it is “his personal and not an official view” that Tbilisi could use Russia’s war in Ukraine to reintegrate Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions.
“First of all, this is a historic opportunity to take control of Abkhazia and ‘South Ossetia.’ There are no Russian troops left, all were withdrawn and secondly, Tbilisi would receive the support of the whole world and Ukraine. Not only are they (the Georgian government) doing this, but they are trying to justify Russia’s positions and actions. This is a very unfriendly step towards Ukraine, towards our common goals, because here we are fighting not only for our freedom, but also for your freedom,” Arestovich said earlier this week.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.
Hostilities have been in progress since then.
