Georgian ruling party: Trump’s fight against ‘Deep State’ can reset Georgian-American relations, benefit both nations

The Georgian Dream ruling party on Wednesday issued a statement emphasizing the potential benefits of President Donald Trump’s campaign to dismantle the “deep state,” asserting that its successful conclusion could result in a “qualitative reset in Georgian-American relations.”

According to the party, this reset would serve the mutual interests of both Georgia and the United States.

In its statement, Georgian Dream criticized recent financial sanctions and visa restrictions imposed on Georgian politicians and officials by several Western countries, calling these measures “anti-Georgian actions” that erode public trust in Western institutions. The party attributed these sanctions to the influence of the so-called “Global War Party” and the “deep state,” which it described as an informal network driving geopolitical conflicts and undermining national sovereignty in multiple countries.

The statement highlighted that President Trump’s efforts to eliminate the “deep state” resonate globally. Quoting the former president’s assertion that “Either America destroys the ‘deep state,’ or the ‘deep state’ destroys America,” the ruling party drew parallels between challenges faced by the US and Georgia.

“Over the past four years, the ‘deep state’ has been destroying not only America but also numerous countries around the world,” the statement read, citing Ukraine as an example of devastation caused by what it termed “deep state patrons.” It further argued that Georgia has successfully avoided a similar fate, attributing this to the efforts of its government and the resilience of its people.

The ruling party also linked the sanctions to alleged attempts by Western entities to coerce Georgia into opening a “second front” in the war with Russia, a move it staunchly opposes.

“No sanctions can intimidate the Georgian people,” the statement declared, emphasizing the country’s commitment to peace and its refusal to be drawn into conflicts that could result in “the Ukrainization of Georgia.”

“The current state of the EU bureaucracy in terms of values is deeply concerning, as most clearly reflected in the five resolutions adopted by the European Parliament regarding Georgia. These resolutions have demanded the punishment of Bidzina Ivanishvili, the release of Saakashvili and other criminals, the withdrawal of law against LGBT propaganda, and more. The latest, fifth resolution goes even further, calling for something that no serious actor had dared to request publicly until now – imposing sanctions on Russia and collapsing the Georgian economy. Given this trend, it is highly likely that in its sixth resolution, the European Parliament may openly demand that we go to war with Russia”, the party said.

It also claimed “the formal grounds for the sanctions imposed by specific states are so flimsy that they hardly require serious argument. Bidzina Ivanishvili [the GD Honorary Chair] is being sanctioned for replacing a bloody authoritarian regime with democratic governance in Georgia, ending systemic practices of torture, murder, business racketeering, media capture, and election fraud, and growing the country’s economy from 28 billion to 90 billion and ensuring 12 years of uninterrupted peace for Georgia”.

Georgian Dream took aim at US Congressman Joe Wilson, accusing him of acting under “deep state” directives and leveraging financial support from individuals linked to corruption. The party described Wilson’s proposed “MEGOBARI Act” as the “Enemy Act,” criticizing its intent to pressure Georgia into aligning with Western demands.

In addition to targeting the “deep state” in the US, the statement highlighted similar concerns in Europe, echoing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s remarks about the oligarchic influence over EU institutions. Georgian Dream expressed hope that both the US and EU would overcome these challenges by 2030, paving the way for stronger relations with Georgia and the potential for EU membership.

“Under the influence of the Global War Party, the modern world operates on Orwellian principles: “War is peace, slavery is freedom, and ignorance is strength.” War, slavery, ignorance, and the deliberate reversal of truth are the primary tools through which the Global War Party informally governs a significant part of the modern world”, the GD said and added “for the second time in a row, they refuse to acknowledge the conclusions of the OSCE/ODIHR regarding the parliamentary elections, despite having previously insisted on inviting the OSCE/ODIHR observation mission to Georgia. Moreover, the opposition, enraged by this conclusion, and its patrons did everything they could to prevent the arrival of the OSCE delegation in Georgia”.

The party concluded its statement with a call for peace and mutual prosperity, emphasizing that Georgia remained committed to defending its sovereignty and fostering constructive relations with its Western partners.
