A Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg took to X to criticize Georgia’s October 26 elections, saying they do not reflect the will of Georgian people.
Thunberg emphasized that Georgians are determined to pursue a democratic future, yet ’’their government is blocking that path.” She also slammed the Georgian government for ’’adopting Russian-style laws that curtail freedom.”
“The ruling party claims victory, but the civil society of Georgia, including election observers, has clearly stated that the results do not reflect the true will of the people. Widespread violations were reported, both before and during election day,” she wrote.
Thunberg, who has been physically participating in protest rallies in the Georgian capital for the last several days, believes that Georgia should have more international attention and requires an investigation into alleged election violations.
“I stand with the people of Georgia in their call for a full investigation and for new, truly free and fair elections…The people of Georgia deserve to have their voices heard. They deserve the chance to choose their future. This is not just their fight; it is the fight of every person who believes in freedom, equality, and justice. And we must stand with them,” her post reads.
