Israel’s military is working to confirm whether top Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was killed during a strike in the southern Gaza Strip, near Rafah. Sinwar, one of Israel’s most wanted figures, has been a primary target since the October 2023 Hamas attack.
Israeli troops reportedly killed three armed men in the region, with unconfirmed reports suggesting one of them resembled Sinwar. Meanwhile, a separate Israeli airstrike hit a school in Gaza as military operations continue amid the ongoing conflict.
The Israel Defense Forces said in a brief statement only that it was “checking the possibility that one of the terrorists was Yahya Sinwar. At this stage, the identity of the terrorists cannot be confirmed.”
This development comes amid escalated violence and growing international concern over the humanitarian impact in Gaza.
