The homes of Eto Buziashvili and Sopo Gelava, employees of the US-based think tank Atlantic Council, were searched by the investigative service of Georgia’s Ministry of Finance. This was confirmed by the researchers’ lawyers to domestic media, though further details from the investigative agency are still pending.
Giorgi Noniashvili, Gelava’s husband and a member of the Federalists party, said investigators had seized all electronic devices, including a child’s laptop. “Bring all the devices [technical, communication equipment] from the family. A child’s laptop too. Mine too”, he wrote on social media.
Tamar Chergoleishvili, founder of the Federalists party, indicated that investigators linked the case to a company contracted by the Atlantic Council.
Investigative actions are reportedly underway in several locations across Tbilisi, although it remains unclear whether the operations are connected.
