The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson congratulates Giorgi Gakharia on his re-appointment as Prime Minister of Georgia.
In his official congratulatory message, Boris Johnson underlined the close partnership between the United Kingdom and Georgia and reaffirmed his support for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
"The United Kingdom appreciates the close partnership with Georgia. Our shared values and visions provide a solid foundation for further cooperation on a variety of issues, including defense and security challenges. I bow to the persistence of you and your government in resisting Russian pressure. The United Kingdom will continue to strongly support Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as your aspirations for NATO membership. NATO's alliance is based on a strong commitment to democratic values. It is important that your government continues the ongoing program of electoral reform, and the United Kingdom, as a friend of Georgia, stands ready to support you in this process," – said Boris Johnson.
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in an official letter also stressed the importance of joint efforts to overcome the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Our countries are fighting to overcome the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, which still threatens the lives and well-being of our citizens. I hope that this year, as the United Kingdom hosts the 26th United Nations Conference on Climate Change, the United Kingdom and Georgia will work together to build a solid foundation to overcome COVID-19, including a more equitable, greener and more sustainable global economy. In the future, there are many opportunities to further deepen our bilateral relations. The Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, signed between the United Kingdom and Georgia in October 2019, is an important document outlining our future relationship and ensuring increased trade and investment flows. The UK Government looks forward to continuing to work with you and your team. I wish you all the best for the post of Prime Minister," – Boris Johnson said in an official congratulatory message received by Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia.
