Iranian President congratulates Georgian PM on election victory

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has extended his congratulations to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze following the parliamentary elections and the victory of the Georgian Dream party.

In a message, Pezeshkian expressed hope that the elections, seen as a “reflection of the will of the Georgian people”, would “mark the beginning of progress and well-being for the nation”. He emphasized the “importance of strengthening relations between Iran and Georgia” and fostering cooperation among regional countries.

“I ask the Lord for the health and success of Your Excellency and the well-being of the friendly Georgian people,” Pezeshkian stated.

However, the opposition parties and the President of Georgia have denounced the election results as fraudulent, refusing to recognize the outcome and demanding new elections to be conducted by an International Election Administration.

On October 30, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller called for an investigation into the parliamentary elections held in Georgia, indicating that the United States was consulting with its allies regarding the situation.

In contrast, leaders from Hungary, Armenia, Azerbaijan, China, and Turkey have congratulated the Georgian Dream party on its electoral success.
