Ivanishvili: ’’Despite heavy legacy of UNM, we achieved impossible”

Bidzina Ivanishvili, honorary chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, addressed supporters at a concluding event for the party’s election campaign in Tbilisi, reflecting on the significant challenges faced since coming to power. He stated that on October 1, 2012, Georgia regained its freedom through unprecedented unity among its people, laying the foundation for a country built on the rule of law and respect for human dignity.

Ivanishvili emphasized that today, fundamental human rights are protected, and there is freedom of expression and opinion, allowing citizens to live without fear.

“We established a country based on the rule of law and respect for human dignity, where fundamental human rights are upheld, and freedom of speech is guaranteed. We have a reformed judiciary, independent media, and a respected business community. Consequently, people can breathe freely without fear of political persecution,” he said.

He acknowledged the significant challenges posed by the legacy of the former government led by the United National Movement (UNM), stating, “Despite inheriting a heavy legacy in many respects, we have achieved what was practically impossible and fundamentally improved conditions across all sectors and directions.”
