Veteran journalist Tamar Nutsubidze has announced her resignation from Rustavi 2, citing a sense of personal responsibility to the audience amid Georgia’s perceived distancing from the European Union.
“Almost a year ago, on December 14, Georgia was granted candidate status. In my 25 years as a journalist, I have covered everything—conflicts, elections, protests, summits. Two of the most significant moments I’ve reported on were the granting of visa-free travel to Europe and candidate status for Georgia. Today, however, we are further from the EU than ever before,” Nutsubidze wrote.
She added that her decision is tied to her commitment to Georgia’s European integration, which had been a cornerstone of her journalistic career. “I feel a personal responsibility to our viewers, which is why I am leaving Rustavi 2. Georgia will still become an EU member someday,” she concluded.
Nutsubidze’s departure comes alongside the resignation of four other journalists from Rustavi 2.
