“Democracy needs free and fair elections, and democracy needs the people. I see so many people here,” said Jukka Kopra, Chairman of the Finnish Defence Committee, during a protest near the Georgian Parliament in Tbilisi.
He stated that the Georgian society has everything it needs to bring democracy to the country.
“Democracy requires free and fair elections, and democracy needs the people. I see a lot of people here. This is not my first time in Tbilisi. I first came here in 1978 when I was a child, during the Soviet rule. When my family and I arrived, there were protests on Rustaveli Avenue, and people protested against the Soviet language law. The Georgians succeeded in forcing the Soviet government to step back. You, Georgians, have a great history of protest. You have everything you need to bring democracy to this country, and we are here to support you. We are Europe, you are Europe,” Jukka Kopra declared.
European MPs joined the Monday’s protest organized by the opposition outside the parliament building.
