Justice Minister urges clarification on President’s plan to open election monitoring headquarters

Justice Minister Rati Bregadze on Wednesday called on President Salome Zourabichvili’s administration to attend the next election commission session and clarify the President’s announcement of plans to open a coordination headquarters at the Atoneli residence on October 26 to monitor the election process.

Bregadze suggested the statement might breach election laws.

The minister indicated that the Justice Ministry would send another letter requesting the administration’s presence to explain the announcement. He cautioned that using state property for electoral purposes could be unlawful, as such facilities should serve official functions.

Bregadze also noted the absence of the President’s representative at the previous commission session, which he said showed a lack of cooperation in ensuring fair elections.
