Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze dismissed recent claims about halting Georgia’s EU integration process, labeling them as “false and shameful statements,” including remarks from the EU Ambassador. Speaking to reporters, Kaladze emphasized that the government remains committed to European integration and ready for negotiations if the EU proceeds with the process.
“Statements suggesting that the Georgian government has stopped the EU integration process are false. The European Commission has the opportunity to open negotiations on Georgia’s membership this December. If it’s on the agenda, the government is ready to proceed. This narrative of refusal is entirely fabricated,” Kaladze stated.
He added that the government is on track with its obligations under the Association Agreement, with over 90% expected to be fulfilled by 2028, ensuring readiness for EU membership.
Kaladze accused some Western politicians and local opposition figures of manipulating the negotiation process for political gains.
“Candidate status and opening negotiations are formalities, tools they use for blackmail to incite division, destabilization, and even violence. They failed to disrupt the country before and are now leveraging this new weapon—negotiations—because they didn’t like the election results. The Georgian government remains resolute, but these tactics of sabotage and manipulation must be exposed,” Kaladze concluded.
The mayor reaffirmed Georgia’s unwavering path toward European integration, urging unity against attempts to undermine the country’s stability.
