Kavelashvili: “Georgians are known for their emotional nature, often exploited by adversaries”

During his inauguration speech, Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili stressed the importance of cautious decision-making to ensure the nation’s survival, development, and prosperity. He highlighted that peace remains the cornerstone of progress and a brighter future.

“Georgians have always understood that peace is the main precondition for survival and development. Achieving prosperity, continuous progress, security, and happiness is possible only when we approach challenges with caution, analyze the threats before us, and make decisions based on reasoning rather than emotions,” Kavelashvili stated.

The President acknowledged the emotional nature of the Georgian people, which, he said, adversaries often exploit. He emphasized the need to learn from past mistakes and act solely in alignment with national interests.

“Undoubtedly, we Georgians are distinguished by our emotional nature, something our adversaries frequently take advantage of. This is why we must exercise special caution and foresight. Analyzing past mistakes must serve as the foundation of all our future decisions. We must act only in accordance with our national interests,” he said.

Kavelashvili also highlighted the Georgian people’s enduring pursuit of peace, which is deeply rooted in their history and traditions.

“Our history clearly demonstrates that, alongside countless battles to protect our homeland and traditions, one of the Georgian people’s primary goals and values has always been peace. Peace allowed our nation to work, enrich its culture, and create masterpieces of art and architecture,” he remarked.

The President also drew attention to the cultural significance of the Georgian feast (supra), describing it as a reflection of the nation’s respect for peace.

“The Georgian feast is not only a manifestation of our traditions and attitudes but also an intangible cultural heritage. It vividly showcases our commitment to peace. Every traditional Georgian feast begins with a toast to God and peace. This expresses gratitude and the hope for peace—a sentiment shaped by our history of war and the deep yearning for tranquility,” Kavelashvili concluded.
