In a recent update to Georgia’s Law on Weapons, amendments were made that grant the Chairman and members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) the right to carry service weapons. This change aims to provide additional security for these officials while performing their duties.
According to the new provisions, CEC members will be permitted to carry service weapons. Additionally, the law ensures that members who have continuously held office for the past four years can retain the right to carry self-defense and sporting short-barreled firearms after their term ends, provided they have adhered to the legal framework of Georgia.
However, the law also establishes a safeguard – if a CEC member is found to have violated Georgia’s election legislation, a court ruling confirming such a violation will result in the loss of their weapon-carrying rights.
