Levan Mgaloblishvili, Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, marked February 25 as a solemn day in Georgia’s history, emphasizing the ongoing struggle for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a social media post, Mgaloblishvili reflected on the sacrifice of the Georgian cadets who lost their lives in defense of the nation’s unity, against the 1921 Red Army invasion near the country’s capital Tbilisi.
He praised their heroic actions, stating that their dedication was forever etched in the country’s history and should serve as an inspiration for future generations.
Mgaloblishvili acknowledged the continued relevance of the occupation issue, drawing a parallel with the struggles of a century ago. “Just like a hundred years ago, we still have to fight for the de-occupation of the country, the protection of sovereignty, and the restoration of territorial integrity,” he wrote. Despite the ongoing challenges, he expressed confidence that the occupation would ultimately end and Georgia would reunite as one.
