French President Emmanuel Macron said on Saturday that Ukraine is ready to implement an unconditional ceasefire, placing the responsibility on Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to show he is serious about achieving peace.
Speaking after a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Rome, Macron highlighted that both leaders share a common objective with US President Donald Trump: putting an end to the war in Ukraine.
“President Zelenskyy reaffirmed today that Ukraine is committed to an unconditional ceasefire,” Macron stated. “He has expressed his desire to work closely with the Americans and Europeans to make it a reality.”
Macron called on Putin to demonstrate his willingness to engage in genuine peace efforts. “It is now up to President Putin to prove that he truly wants peace,” he added.
The French leader also emphasized that work will continue within the coalition of volunteer countries launched in Paris last March, with the dual aim of securing an immediate ceasefire and building a complete and lasting peace in Ukraine.
