The Commander of the Georgian Defense Forces, Major General Giorgi Matiashvili met with the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, General Stuart Peach. Meeting in st. Held at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, where meetings are held at the level of Defense Forces Command Alliance member and Partner countries.
According to the Ministry of Defense, General Matiashvili thanked the Chairman of the Supreme Military Alliance of the North Atlantic Alliance for his unwavering support for Georgia's sovereignty, territorial integrity and membership in NATO.
The sides discussed the security environment in the region and new challenges.
Special attention was paid to the defense transformation process, security issues in the Black Sea region, prospects for deepening cooperation with NATO, and Georgia's contribution to the ongoing NATO-led "Strong Support Mission" in Afghanistan.
The Commander of the Georgian Defense Forces noted that Georgia, as a critical partner of NATO and a future member of the Alliance, remains committed to the principles and values of common security and reaffirmed its readiness to continue its contribution to the NATO "Strong Support Mission" in Afghanistan.
The generals stressed the importance of joint military exercises and NATO-Georgia exercises planned for next year.
