Majority MP: Gakharia-Khazaradze’s unity is externally scripted scenario

Irakli Kadagishvili, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament’s Procedural Issues and Rules Committee, claimed that the emerging unity between Mamuka Khazaradze’s Strong Georgia and Giorgi Gakharia’s For Georgia party is part of an “externally written scenario.”

Kadagishvili suggested that the decision to unite was driven not by the will of the two opposition political actors but by external directives aimed at advancing a pre-determined agenda.

According to Kadagishvili, both parties face the risk of failing to meet the 5% threshold individually in upcoming elections, prompting them to consider forming a coalition.

He also dismissed claims that the parties would remain independent from the opposition United National Movement (UNM), accusing them of bluffing to remove the label of being UNM affiliates ahead of elections.

Kadagishvili pointed out that Gakharia’s party has already formed coalitions with the UNM in four municipalities, and Khazaradze’s party supported the UNM’s mayoral candidate during previous local elections. This, he argues, makes their denial of future collaboration a strategy to deceive the public until the elections are over.

The MP concluded by stating that while internal disagreements within the parties may cause some friction, the coalition plan is unlikely to face any significant obstacles and is set to materialize as intended.
