Mamuka Khazaradze issues ultimatum to Ivanishvili over escalating violence against protesters

Leader of the Strong Georgia coalition, Mamuka Khazaradze, has publicly addressed Bidzina Ivanishvili, urging him to condemn the recent violence on Tbilisi’s streets within 24 hours. Khazaradze called on Ivanishvili to hold accountable those responsible for orchestrating attacks against protesters or take personal responsibility for the events.

“Yesterday, the Rubicon was crossed,” Khazaradze stated. “The terror we witnessed on our streets—a coordinated attack on the Georgian people—is your responsibility. If you fail to denounce this, arrest those criminals, and demonstrate that the rule of law exists in Georgia, the blame falls squarely on you. You, as a Russian in Georgia, are dragging this country closer to Russia.”

Khazaradze linked the current crisis to a series of earlier events, including what he described as a “stolen election,” the unlawful convening of parliament, the illegitimate appointment of government officials, and the severing of ties with the European Union and the United States.

He also appealed to Georgia’s police force, urging officers who silently disapprove of the violence to speak up.

“There are honorable individuals in law enforcement who serve their country and take pride in their uniforms,” Khazaradze said. “But those who remain silent while others brutalize young citizens and political opponents are complicit. Silence is no longer an option—take a stand or risk being part of the crime.”

The protests, initially focused on political grievances, have grown into widespread demonstrations following the ruling Georgian Dream party’s decision to halt progress on EU membership until at least 2028. This announcement on November 28 by Irakli Kobakhidze has significantly intensified the public’s outrage.
