European Parliament member Rasa Juknevičienė issued a warning regarding Georgia’s EU future, suggesting that the country’s path to Europe is being obstructed by those who supported and enabled recent election manipulations.
“Yes, the door to Europe is closing but it is closing by the hands of Georgians themselves—those who voted for the Georgian Dream and, even more so, those who manipulated the elections, depriving the people of a fair and free voting process,” Juknevičienė said in an interview with Voice of America.
Juknevičienė emphasized that the European Union is considering all options to respond to these developments, including the possibility of revoking visa liberalization for those responsible for election violations.
“We are reviewing every option, including visa liberalization suspension for those who broke the law and failed to conduct free and fair elections, effectively stealing the people’s vote,” she added.
The European parliamentarian underscored that a challenging period lies ahead, during which the EU’s stance toward Georgia will be “firm, strong, and clear.”
