MEP Kaljurand: all Georgian political parties must promise to approve OSCE/ODIHR election assessments

MEP Marina Kaljurand, former foreign minister of Estonia, has told Voice of America that before the October 2 municipal elections in Georgia all parties must promise that they will accept the assessments of OSCE/ODIHR on the race.

She says that the recognition of the election results, if they are described as fair by OSCE/ODIHR and other international observers, is important to maintain peace and stability in the country.

Kaljurand says that disrespect to the OSCE/ODIHR conclusion on the 2020 parliamentary elections by the Georgian opposition caused almost one-year political tension in the country.

In her previous comments, Kaljurand has called upon the third president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili to refrain from provocations ahead of the race.

Saakashvili, who is wanted by Georgian law enforcers, pledges to return to the country on the evening of the election day.
