MEP Lagodinsky calls for new elections in Georgia amid fraud allegations

Sergey Lagodinsky, a member of the European Parliament, has expressed concern over allegations of widespread electoral fraud in Georgia’s recent parliamentary elections. In his statement, Lagodinsky emphasized the importance of holding new elections under international observation to ensure transparency and restore public trust.

“I wasn’t at the elections myself, but credible organizations were present, such as the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association, which I trust deeply. They have reported mass fraud, and I have never seen them exhibit bias toward any political side,” said Lagodinsky.

The MEP called on Georgia’s ruling party, Georgian Dream, to support the idea of a new election if it truly believes in its public support. “If Georgian Dream is confident the people are on their side, they should have nothing to fear,” he remarked.

Lagodinsky also suggested that sanctions could be considered as a means of signaling that manipulation of democratic processes is unacceptable. However, he expressed hope that Georgian authorities would reconsider their actions without external measures.
