Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Petras Auštrevičius has reacted to the arrest of Elene Khoshtaria, leader of the opposition party Droa and a key figure of the Coalition for Change.
In a statement on social media, Auštrevičius criticized the Georgian authorities, saying:
“The Russian way of acting – Georgia’s police yesterday detained, intimidated, and humiliated Elene Khoshtaria, the Chair of the opposition party Droa. The Government of Georgia will pay a high price for human rights violations.”
Khoshtaria was detained on March 28 during a protest on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi. She remains in pre-trial detention as of now.
