Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Petras Auštrevičius has warned that Georgia’s ruling party, Georgian Dream, is consolidating power in a way that threatens its own citizens, calling for urgent action from the European Union.
Speaking in the European Parliament, Auštrevičius stressed that the EU must act quickly to support Georgian civil society and democratic forces.
“We need action. I believe that Ambassador Pawel Herczynski will take a more active role in supporting Georgia’s civil society. We have no time to waste—we must act swiftly because the Georgian Dream, a police regime, is consolidating its power and using it against its own people. If we fail to act, we will not only lose Georgia but also betray our core principles,” Auštrevičius stated.
He further emphasized that the EU Commission’s 2025 agenda should prioritize supporting Georgia’s democratic parties and ensuring the country remains on a pro-European path.
