The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has criticized the Georgian government and the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) for the use of graphic imagery from Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine in its political advertising, labeling it unacceptable.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine condemns and considers unacceptable using in political advertising the images of terrible consequences of Russia’s ruthless war against Ukraine, suffering and blood of thousands of innocent people, destruction of churches and the cultural heritage,” the MFA of Ukraine stated.
Ukraine also urged the Georgian government, its GD party, and all political actors to refrain from using the ongoing war in Ukraine as a tool in Georgia’s internal political battles.
The Ministry stressed that Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression has broader implications for regional peace, including in Georgia.
“The Georgian people may not be afraid of a new war as long as Ukraine resists Russian aggression. The terrible price of this resistance is also the price of peace in Georgia,” the statement said.
The MFA also stated that Ukraine reaffirms its steadfast support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and hopes that the upcoming Georgian parliamentary elections will be peaceful, democratic, and aligned with the country’s strategic goals of EU and NATO membership.
On Thursday, in the morning, new election banners from the Georgian Dream party appeared on the streets, which read “No to war! Choose peace!” The banners are split into two parts. On one side, they depict cities, buildings, and infrastructure destroyed by Russia in Ukraine, while the other side shows Georgian cities. The bombed Ukrainian cities are shown in black and white, whereas Georgia is represented in color.
