The Georgian National Statistics Office on Thursday said the country’s population had increased by 1.3 percent as of January 1, 2023 compared to the same period of the last year, and equaled 3.7 million.
It said 60.4 percent of the population lived in urban settlements, while almost one third of the total population resided in the capital city Tbilisi.
The agency noted the male population equaled 1.8. million and the female population almost two million.
“In Georgia, 48 percent are male and 52 percent are female. The sex ratio, the number of men per 100 women, equals 92. Under the age of 35 the number of men exceeds that of women, while the opposite situation is observed for the age group of 35 and over, which could be explained by females’ higher life expectancy”, Geostat said.
Compared to the previous year, in 2022 the life expectancy at birth had increased by 2.3 units and equaled 73.7 years, including 69.4 years for males and 78.1 years for females, Geostat added.
The median age of population in the survey equaled 38 years.
