NBC News: Trump’s allies urge Musk to limit media appearances

Allies of US President Donald Trump are pressuring Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, to reduce his media appearances, as his statements often diverge from Trump’s positions, NBC News reports.

According to the outlet, Trump had previously assured that his administration would not interfere with social security programs except to make them more efficient. However, Musk recently made critical comments about the program, contradicting Trump’s promises and raising concerns among Republicans.

Four sources familiar with the situation told NBC News that these concerns have led some of Trump’s allies to question whether the billionaire should continue giving so many interviews.

A White House representative told the publication that they acknowledge the concerns of some Republicans who view Musk’s remarks on social security as potentially problematic and alarming.

Trump’s administration insists that Musk’s personal views on social security do not influence the president’s policies.

Since Musk was appointed as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, he has overseen large-scale cuts in federal agencies, resulting in the dismissal of thousands of government employees. These actions have sparked mixed reactions, even among Trump’s allies.

The media has also reported tensions between Musk and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, though the Trump administration has denied these claims.

According to Politico, following the wave of dismissals, Trump has decided to limit Musk’s authority.
