New Theatre launches regional tour to advocate for detained actors and demonstrators

The New Theatre, led by renowned director Davit Doiashvili, has announced a regional tour aimed at advocating for actors and demonstrators detained during recent protests. Speaking in front of the Vaso Abashidze Theatre, Doiashvili emphasized the symbolic and real imprisonment of Georgian culture alongside these individuals.

“Reading the names of those detained on this stage is our way of saying that the cultural community stands with them,” Doiashvili stated. “This is not just their fight; it is a battle for the soul of Georgian culture. Even if they darken the whole city, the stage lights will shine, and we will be there to fight for justice.”

The initiative, framed as the “New Theatre Manifesto,” will take performances and dialogue to communities across Georgia, underscoring the transformative power of art to inspire change. “We will go everywhere, speak to everyone, and show what theatre can do. This is not just a tour; it is a cultural movement,” Doiashvili added.

The New Theatre plans to collaborate with other theatres and cultural groups, uniting the artistic community in support of justice and freedom for those detained. As Doiashvili urged, “Follow Georgian theatre—follow us, because we will not stop until justice prevails.”
