UNM holding three rallies today with cars

The United National Movement (UNM) opposition party has plans to hold three rallies today with cars in capital Tbilisi to protest ‘being of pro-Russian Georgian Dream in power,’ and demand the transfer of former president Mikheil Saakashvili to a civil clinic.

The party has plans to stop at three locations in Tbilisi in the afternoon: on the Republic Square, at the building of the Central Election Commission and then in front of the UNM headquarters.

Saakashvili says he was taken to the prison hospital last week against his will on the 39th day of his hunger strike.

He has been on hunger strike for 47 days, since his arrest in Tbilisi on October 1.

The third president was convicted in Georgia back in 2018 for abuse of power in absentia and was sentenced to six years in prison.

Saakashvili also faces five charges related to embezzlement, illegal takeover of property and others.

The third president says he returned to Georgia after eight years in political exile to remove the Georgian Dream from power.
