Degnan: real threats coming from Russia

US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan says that ‘real threats are coming from the North, and from NATO and its allies.’

She has stated this in response to recent statements of Russian FM Sergey Lavrov who once again slammed the alliance’s 2008 Bucharest summit for promising the membership of Georgia and Ukraine.

Degnan says that the mobilization of Russian troops on the borders of Ukraine shows that Russia is a real threat and not NATO ‘which works for stability and peace in the region.’

She stated that the US once again reaffirmed its ‘clear support’ for the membership of Georgia and Ukraine in NATO during the recent NATO Foreign Ministerial in Riga.
