Tikaradze: Georgia ready to cope with coronavirus new Omicron strain

Ekaterine Tikaradze, who has recently announced her resignation from the post, says that Georgia is ready to cope with the challenges posed by the new variant of coronavirus called Omicron when it enters Georgia. The strain has not been reported in the country so far.

Tikaradze says that the country’s healthcare sector is prepared for any kind of challenges. Delta variant, which is cited to be more dangerous than the novel strain, is dominant in Georgia as of now.

World Health Organization Director General Tedros A Ghebreyesus says that 77 nations have already reported cases of Omicron.

According to the WHO, Omicron is most likely present in most nations, even though it has yet to be detected, noting that ‘Omicron is spreading at a rate we haven't seen with any other variety.’

WHO says that COVID vaccination alone will not be enough to stop the pandemic, and that mask use, social distancing, ventilation, and hand hygiene should be observed.
