Land gifted to Georgia near Jordan River where country’s cultural centre will be built

Jordan’s royal family has gifted a plot of land to Georgia where a cultural centre will be built, Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili stated earlier today on the holiday of Epiphany.

The land is near the baptism site of Jesus Christ.

“On the decision of His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan and His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi, a parcel of land has been granted to Georgia near the Jordan River, the place of the Savior's baptism. With the Patriarch's blessing, a Georgian cultural center will be built there. After a 300-year pause, Georgia is returning to the Holy Land, a joyous event to celebrate for all Georgians,” Garibashvili said.

He stated that this has been made possible through the joint efforts of secular and ecclesiastical authorities.

“Invaluable has been the engagement and enormous international stature of His Holiness and Beatitude, our beloved Catholicos-Patriarch of All-Georgia Ilia II. And this kind of unity between secular and ecclesiastical strata has always been and will be the main promise of our country's progress and development,” Garibashvili said.
